{"id":138,"date":"2012-09-05T12:41:44","date_gmt":"2012-09-05T12:41:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sthelensresidents.org.uk\/?p=138"},"modified":"2012-09-05T12:49:13","modified_gmt":"2012-09-05T12:49:13","slug":"north-pole-pub-to-be-a-tesco-express","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sthelensresidents.org.uk\/?p=138","title":{"rendered":"North Pole pub to be a Tesco Express"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After months of rumours that first Sainsburys and then Tesco would be taking over the North Pole pub, we now have a clear picture.<\/p>\n<p>The freehold of the building has been bought by a property fund called Riding House Investments.\u00a0 Tesco has taken a 20 year lease on the ground floor and basement, and propose to open a 3,300 sq.ft Tesco Express store.<\/p>\n<p>Tesco has applied for planning permission for new fascia signs, a shopfront, and for some minor external works in\u00a0Latimer Road.\u00a0 The three applications are on the\u00a0RBKC website, and the one with most useful information can be seen <a title=\"Tesco North Pole application\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rbkc.gov.uk\/idoxWAM\/findCaseFile.do?appNumber=PP\/12\/03172&amp;appType=Planning&amp;action=Search\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tesco has provided us with a CGI image of what the new shopfront will look like:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_140\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sthelensresidents.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/North_Pole__-_CGI1.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-140\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-140\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/sthelensresidents.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/North_Pole__-_CGI1-1024x680.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sthelensresidents.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/North_Pole__-_CGI1-1024x680.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/sthelensresidents.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/North_Pole__-_CGI1-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/sthelensresidents.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/North_Pole__-_CGI1-451x300.jpg 451w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-140\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image of Tesco Express at North Pole Road<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Councillor Matthew Palmer will be organising a meeting between Tesco and the\u00a0shopkeepers in North Pole Road.\u00a0 The Association&#8217;s main concern is now to protect the future viability of the existing shops and in particular the post office, chemists, and butcher &#8211; as longstanding and well used facilities for local people in this area.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: left;\">We also support the new RBKC policies designed to stop the loss of pubs in the Borough.\u00a0 The council has been consulting on its new policy, and has recently published its final proposals which you can find <a title=\"Consultation on RBKC pubs policy\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rbkc.gov.uk\/planningandconservation\/planningpolicy\/consultations.aspx\">here<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: left;\">From feedback from our membership, most feel that North Pole Road already has three convenience stores, and that the arrival of a Tesco Express risks putting existing shops out of business.\u00a0 A small number of our members would be happy to see a Tesco Express in North Pole Road.\u00a0 Tesco argue that such stores increase footfall and can help to revive a local shopping street.
